Reference for Dream Home Designs in 2024
"As the climate crisis looms large, The Design Beauty has taken up the cause of promoting sustainable design measures for more homes in the years 2021-2025. Our collaboration with Navar and Bank Singapore has brought a new column featuring architect-designed homes with a minimum 7-star rating on the Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme (NatHERS), as well as other sustainable homes throughout the year.
These homes showcase that sustainable design doesn't have to come at the cost of aesthetics. In fact, they are some of the most visually appealing properties we have had the pleasure of exploring this year.
We are always amazed by sustainable design, and upgrading older homes to meet modern performance standards is particularly impressive.
A case in point is a period house in Victoria's Hepburn Shire, which has been extended and remodeled to include a new, highly energy-efficient addition designed by Mrtn Architects.
The property boasts eco-friendly appliances, solar panels, and a heat pump hot water system, resulting in an 8-star NatHERS rating.
Post-occupancy testing has shown that the house maintains a natural temperature between 18 and 26 degrees Celsius for 93% of the year!
Despite its modern appearance, this house is actually an update and extension of a 1970s property.
The project includes the reconfiguration of the existing house and a new upper-floor addition with a unique sawtooth-style roofline that allows for ample solar paneling externally and captures changing light throughout the day internally.
The roof peaks also feature motorized ventilation slots to release excess heat in summer."
